- ➤ Detention officers and inmate trustees cleaned up trash near Red Sands on Montana Avenue after 4th of July celebrations—filling bags with cardboard, spent fireworks, and other debris before loading them onto Sheriff trucks. KVIA
- ➤ This morning, El Paso Candlelighter kids with cancer left for camp in Cloudcroft, New Mexico as members of the El Paso Motorcycle Coalition escorted them. Some riders traveled the entire route while others joined only for part of the journey—each riding as part of the program that gives kids a chance to explore outdoors. KVIA
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ One person was injured and taken to a local hospital on Saturday, July 5 near Downtown El Paso after a special rescue at East Seventh Avenue and South Park Street in the Secundo Barrio neighborhood—Border Patrol was also on scene. KTSM
- ➤ El Paso Fire crews battled a condition 3 fire at an apartment complex on 6032 Caprock Ct in West El Paso around 9 a.m.—no injuries were reported as crews checked for hotspots. KVIA
- ➤ Today at 11:35 a.m., the El Paso Fire Department rescued a woman from a sewer at E. 7th Avenue and Park Street and took her to hospital—witnesses said about 10 people were seen emerging from the sewer and Border Patrol arrived at the scene. KVIA

- ➤ Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, landed in El Paso on Sept. 12, 1928, to fix her plane before flying to Los Angeles for the National Air Show (she was the first woman pilot to land at the Municipal airport). Local reports called her (Our Amelia) and praised her friendly, determined attitude as she made her historic stop. El Paso Times

- ➤ Adriana Garcia, a sign language interpreter at EPCC, will retire on July 31 after 35 years of service—she began in 1990. She often worked with her daughter Victoria on college events and will volunteer with hospice services after her retirement. KTSM

- ➤ With triple digit temperatures returning today, Julieanne Newbold of El Paso Animal Services warns that older pets, puppies, and thick-coated animals are especially at risk and should stay indoors with cool water, shade, and proper shelter under the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act — if pets show signs of overheating such as heavy panting or difficulty breathing, owners should contact their veterinarian or call 311 immediately.
