ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Six members of the El Paso Fire Department Water Rescue Team have been deployed to help with flooding rescue operations in Central Texas—rescuing two individuals clinging to a tree in Marble Falls—and are working with other agencies as part of Texas Task Force 1.  KTSM
  • El Paso Fire crews rescued a person with serious injuries from a canal in South-Central El Paso along Border Highway at Fonseca on Sunday, July 6 at 2:40 p.m.—the injured individual was transported by emergency responders.  KTSM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Damascus Gaming, a new esports center on the second floor at the Shoppes at Solana on Sunland Park Dr., is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 12 to 6 p.m. on Sundays, hosting daily gaming events, tournaments, and free demo sessions for card games—local veterans Daniel Teske and Craig Carrington sponsor professional players and launched the Borderland League to boost elite esports in El Paso.  KTSM
  • Bubba’s 33 in El Paso and Las Cruces is donating $1 from each Patriot Burger sold through July 31 to Homes for Our Troops to build specially adapted homes for post-9/11 veterans—one local person will also win free burgers for a year by entering in person.  KTSM

CRIME NEWS

  • El Paso police are asking for help as two men in black hooded jackets broke the front window of Puffs to Go Smoke Shop on May 10th at 4:00 a.m.—climbing over wrought iron bars—and stole nearly $3,000 in merchandise while causing about $1,200 in damage.  KFOX14

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of El Paso is partnering with 915 Treekeepers to plant 500 trees in parks to bring more shade during extreme summer heat. Assistant Director Emigdio Gonzalez said the project fills gaps in aging tree canopies — and the city will consider extra funds in next year's budget — as residents welcome the relief.  KFOX14

  • El Paso Fire Department Water Rescue Team from Texas Task Force 1 rescued two people clinging to a tree in Marble Falls on July 6 amid historic floods in central Texas — local leaders have offered support and urged donations for those affected by the disaster.  El Paso Times
  • Nine members of the Texas Department of Public Safety Air Division from El Paso deployed to central Texas to assist with search and rescue operations—air patrol roles include both criminal surveillance and support for local and federal agencies.  KVIA

  • El Paso alum Kayla Thornton has been named as a Western Conference reserve for the WNBA All-Star game with the Golden State Valkyries. The 10-year pro averaged 14.9 points and 7.1 rebounds this season and will play on July 19 in Indianapolis — marking her first All-Star appearance.  El Paso Times
