  • The El Paso County Public Works Department will host two cleanup events on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Fabens at 199 Citizen Transfer Station Rd. + East Montana at 14698 Van Lane, where residents can drop off up to 5 tires (each 17 inches or less), a pick-up truck load of bulk trash, and approved electronics while following specific rules.  KVIA
  • National Furniture Liquidators at 8600 Gateway East hosted a free wrestling tournament in partnership with God of the Ring Pro Wrestling Entertainment where wrestlers met fans before fighting—proceeds including concession sales supported programs for local children with special needs.  KVIA

CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded just after 8 a.m. to a burglary call at Radford School after a break-in occurred outside school hours and began a precautionary sweep—school administrators said there is no immediate threat as the area around the 2000 block of Radford is closed to the public.  KVIA

  • Tens of thousands of area students in El Paso prepared for the school year as Moms on Board and Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare hosted a community event that provided student athlete physicals, free clear backpacks, school supplies and haircuts. Local families received services aimed at easing the start of school—reducing the load for students and their parents.  KVIA
  • El Paso Community College hosted a FAFSA Parent session at the Education Service Center Region 19 where the college and its partners taught parents, guardians, and students about paying for college. Attendees received clear, step-by-step help to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Immigration and public-lands activists gathered Saturday morning in Santa Teresa to protest a policy that placed 109,000 acres of public land under Department of Defense control. A protester said the move prevents access for recreational and humanitarian use while a Border Patrol spokesman from the local sector stressed law enforcement’s community role—fueling ongoing debate over the border policy.  KVIA
  • Residents in Fabens will face overnight closures along North Loop from Gina Drive to 5th Street as El Paso Electric upgrades overhead power lines and equipment, with work lasting about six weeks—closures run from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday nights to Thursday mornings, starting Monday night, July 14.  KTSM
