- ➤ Socorro Police responded to a report of a suspicious box near the gas pumps at 10197 Alameda Avenue and received help from the El Paso Police Bomb Squad — using special tools to confirm the box posed no threat. KFOX14
- ➤ A Louisiana man, Benjamin Thomas Mackey, was arrested after he sped away from a Border Patrol checkpoint near Sierra Blanca on July 3 and crashed during a 120 mph chase—agents found 10 pounds of marijuana in his car and he is now held without bond at the El Paso County Jail while facing charges that could lead to up to five years in federal prison. - ➤ Socorro ISD’s Fine Arts Department was recognized for a fifth consecutive year with the District of Distinction Award from TAEA, placing the district among the top 8 percent in Texas+ the award will be celebrated at the TAEA ceremony on Nov. 21 after meeting a strict 14-point rubric over the 2024-2025 school year. - ➤ The City of El Paso plans a $9 million project to repave Vista del Sol Drive and add ADA-compliant sidewalks, driveways, ramps, curbs and gutters in East El Paso.
