  • UA Local 412 and Sun City Welding Academy held evaluations in El Paso for local welders and pipe fitters to fill positions at the MPLX Cryo Gas Separation Plant. The jobs pay between $43 to $60 an hour with a generous per diem and aim to address a shortage as seasoned workers retire.  KVIA

CRIME NEWS

  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Bridge of the Americas seized 132.4 grams of fentanyl hidden in a 56-year-old man's rectum just before 4 a.m. on Friday—detected by a canine alert—and he was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.  KFOX14
  • El Paso police said a 77-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run near Alameda Avenue and Gibraltar Road on July 20 when a light-colored SUV hit her and fled the scene — her family now seeks justice — and they urge anyone with information to come forward.  KTSM
  • CBP officers at Ysleta International Port of Entry seized 42 pounds of cocaine from a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old U.S. citizen on July 20 before 4 p.m.—a drug-sniffing dog found 10 hidden bundles and the driver was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.  KTSM

  • The International Museum of Art in El Paso will host its 3rd annual Member Showcase from July 26 through August 31, featuring the Joy Abounds exhibit that highlights moments of happiness—an event inviting locals to join as members.   • After Rosa was deported from El Paso in February, her family moved to a small apartment in Ciudad Juárez where their U.S.-born children—who need special medical care and schooling for their disabilities—struggle to receive the support they got in El Paso.   • Thousands in El Paso County lost power this morning in West El Paso — Fabens and several other areas as local officials work to determine when electricity will be restored.  KVIA

HEALTH NEWS

  • City inspectors in El Paso use a 100-point scale to check restaurants for food safety, and each establishment must score 70 or higher to pass—inspectors reported passing 8,222 restaurants in 2024 and 3,884 so far in 2025. The scoring system, explained by the City Sanitary Services Manager, helps diners choose safe places to eat.  KFOX14
