  • Operation H.O.P.E. is hosting its 30th Annual Back to School Giveaway this Saturday, July 26 at 10 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso where 500 children in need will get backpacks and school supplies—partners include Cinta De Oro’s School of Lucha Libre, Cesar Ornelas Law, Jessica Morales Allstate, The Williams Advanced Realty Team, Joint Task Force North Compound, EPPD Central P.A.R. office and Craze Lemonade—and families can also see the Operation H.O.P.E. CRIME NEWS

  • El Paso detectives arrested Antonio Chavez—56 on Monday after an elderly homeowner reported paying for a remodeling job that was never finished; he is charged with Theft of Property under $30,000 and was booked on a $5,000 bond.  KVIA
  • An 18-year-old teen, Emiliano Roman Rivera, was arrested in Socorro on Saturday at about 7:50 p.m. for attacking his brother with a knife and was booked into El Paso County Detention Facility (with a $25,000 bond) and faces a second-degree felony charge (as reported by police).  KFOX14
  • FBI El Paso is warning residents about fake charity scams following floods and disasters—scammers use online platforms to mimic trusted charities and take donations from well-meaning people—while Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced an investigation into scams linked to Kerr County flash floods.  KTSM

  • El Pasoans can look forward to free concerts for ages 21 and over at Speaking Rock Entertainment Center this August. Third Eye Blind will perform on Saturday, Aug. 2—doors open at 6 p.m.—and TLC will perform on Saturday, Aug. 16 as part of their CrazySexyCool tour.  El Paso Times
  • This weekend in El Paso, adults can attend a tiki luau at La Nube STEAM Discovery Center on Friday while families enjoy Insect Night at the Museum of Archaeology, a snake display at the El Paso Zoo, a classic film festival downtown, and a backpack giveaway with a 3K walk/run at Pavo Real Park—each event offering unique cultural and community experiences.  El Paso Matters

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Escobar and other lawmakers introduced a bill that would require immigration enforcement officers to show clear identification during public actions. Lawmakers say the bill will let people know they are dealing with proper officials — they expect it to lessen confusion and boost safety.  KFOX14
  • The Department of Defense approved a $231,878,229 contract with Acquisition Logistics LLC to build and operate a 5,000-bed ICE detention center on Fort Bliss land in El Paso—work is slated for completion on Sept. 30. The contract follows a March 28 approval for DHS use of the site and comes amid concerns after Rep. Veronica Escobar was barred from an ICE oversight visit on July 9.  El Paso Times

  • El Paso boxer Stephanie Han will defend her WBA lightweight title on August 23 in Orlando against Colombian challenger Paulina Angel — her first fight with MVP — as the bout will stream live on DAZN. Han, who won the title with a first‐round knockout in February, is set to prove her skill in this upcoming bout.  El Paso Times
