  • A 13-year-old cancer survivor from Arizona became a U.S. Army tank commander for a day at Fort Bliss on July 25 through a Make-A-Wish Foundation event after finishing months of chemotherapy. He experienced live tank fire, military exercises — and met soldiers — earning a hand-painted helmet as a keepsake.  El Paso Times
  • El Paso County and the El Paso United Family Resiliency Center will hold a remembrance ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Healing Garden at Ascarate Park to honor victims and survivors of the 2019 Walmart massacre. El Paso Pro Musica will play at 6:30 p.m. — the performance will be followed by a prayer and a reading of names led by the Commissioners Court.  KTSM

CRIME NEWS

  • Surveillance footage from El Paso shows Patrick Crusius entering Walmart multiple times before the shooting and later admitting in an interrogation to violent thoughts and to targeting Mexicans after being bullied in school — his defense attorney described him as psychotic.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • The City of El Paso’s Department of Public Health is offering free routine vaccines for eligible children 18 and under at its Community Clinics from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—this service covers vaccines for tetanus, polio, measles and other preventable diseases before school starts. The Vax to School Tour ’25 will visit local areas to reach families with limited healthcare access, and appointments are not required.  KTSM
  • Vitalant, which has provided blood for El Paso for over 70 years, will host a 'Remember. Honor. Give.' blood drive at Cielo Vista Mall on Aug. 2-3 to honor the Walmart massacre victims from Aug. 3, 2019. Donors can help sustain the blood supply during summer's trauma season & receive a commemorative T-shirt.  KTSM
