- ➤ Federal law enforcement arrested more than 130 people on immigration charges during the first week of August—these include a guide accused of smuggling migrants through storm drains and two men who attempted to break into a storm drain to facilitate smuggling. El Paso Times

- ➤ St. Patrick Cathedral, a 107-year-old church, will begin a $6 million interior renovation on August 1 in an eight-month project that will restore columns, ceiling, and light fixtures while moving an unused confessional to create a shrine with a relic of St. Pedro de Jesus Maldonado.
