- ➤ A Socorro man, Armando Bejarano, pleaded guilty on Aug. 7 to 24 felony charges—ranging from theft and drug offenses to evading arrest—that were linked to a crime spree from 2019 to 2024 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. El Paso Times

- ➤ The University of Texas at El Paso is relaunching its university press after nearly 20 years of inactivity and will now operate as UTEP Press, which plans to release 8 new titles and republish classics during the 2025-26 academic year. The press will continue the Texas Western Press imprint, focusing on Southwest topics, and will use modern print-on-demand and ebook technology while awarding two $10,000 book stipends and two fellowship awards. - ➤ On August 14, 2025, Workforce Solutions Borderplex started NEWForce to use $2 million for 200 paid apprenticeships in high-demand fields like health, IT, and construction — manufacturing in downtown El Paso.
