  • The DEA in El Paso will host a family summit to educate neighbors about the dangers of fentanyl and provide vital support—multiple agencies will join to offer resources and expert guidance on staying safe.  KFOX14

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A hiker injured while hiking at Franklin Mountains State Park was rescued Thursday night when a CBP Black Hawk helicopter used night-vision goggles to locate him and lift him with five El Paso County rescuers at 180 feet—he was then taken to a hospital.  KFOX14

ECONOMY NEWS

  • El Paso Electric said on Friday that its new Newman Power Station in northeast El Paso relieved pressure on the local grid by quickly using natural gas, solar, and battery power during peak summer demand. The $210 million station was built to serve up to 120,000 homes—improving reliability for customers.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso County commissioners approved a five-year plan to install at least 120 streetlights per year at a cost of nearly $1.2 million in parks, residential areas and mailbox clusters—commissioners said the plan reserves funds for unforeseen needs while one representative expressed concern about limited improvements in Precinct 2.  KFOX14
  • El Paso Electric will refund customers about $25 over the next three months to adjust fuel charges, while EPISD approved a 2025 tax rate of $1.08 per $100 and SISD authorized James Vasquez as superintendent under a waiver. UTEP will raise student union fees beginning spring and El Paso County set a new tax rate to fund a $608 million budget — measures that support government and education changes — with Texas Tech increasing a contract to aid medical school re-accreditation.  El Paso Matters
