ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Police identified 48-year-old Alejandro Rodriguez as the motorcyclist who died Sunday morning after his 2024 Kawasaki Ninja was rear-ended by a 2024 Ford Mustang on I-10 near the Don Haskins exit—he died at the scene.  KFOX14

CRIME NEWS

  • Police are seeking drivers of a dark gray Jeep SUV and a red pickup truck who may have seen the deadly motorcycle crash in East El Paso near Walmart on Joe Battle Boulevard on June 18 at 4:30 p.m.—the crash that killed 44-year-old Angel Arturo Hernandez when his 2017 Harley Davidson’s brakes locked and he was not wearing a helmet.  KFOX14
  • 29-year-old Angel Geovanny Martinez was arrested in Canutillo over the weekend after resisting arrest while deputies learned he had an active warrant for assault on a pregnant person—he faces bonds of $25,000 and $2,500 at the county jail.  KFOX14

FINANCE NEWS

  • The Powerball jackpot has topped $1 billion and many Borderland residents are playing for a chance to win; ticket holders in Texas have 180 days to claim their prize while experts advise signing the ticket and consulting a financial advisor—privacy and tax rules differ for winners in New Mexico. The next drawing is scheduled for 9:59 p.m. Mountain Time.  KVIA

  • El Pasoans participated in the Workers Over Billionaires protest at the corner of Montwood—Zaragoza from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. yesterday, as part of a nationwide effort by labor unions to oppose policies favoring billionaires.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new law expanding Texas's Compassionate Use Program took effect today and now covers patients with chronic pain, traumatic brain injuries, Crohn’s disease, and those in hospice care—allowing them to use medical marijuana in El Paso. The law sets a strict 10-mg THC dosage and permits new forms like patches and inhalers while planning to issue up to 15 dispensary licenses to improve access.  KFOX14
  • UTEP environmental health professor Dr. Gabriel Ibarra-Mejia advises El Paso residents to shower after outdoor activities and wash their bedding when allergy season begins on Sept. 22 as ragweed, pollen, and mold spores increase + proper ventilation and HEPA filters can help reduce indoor irritants.  KVIA
