  • Albertsons in El Paso, Horizon City and Las Cruces launched a Hunger Action Month campaign that runs through Sept. 30 to raise funds for El Pasoans Fighting Hunger and Casa de Peregrinos using checkout donation prompts and coin canisters—ABC-7’s Good Morning El Paso featured the campaign on Tuesday and noted that one in three residents are food insecure.  KVIA

  • Dutch Bros. Coffee will open a new shop at 3520 North Zaragoza Rd. in far East El Paso near Carl's Jr.—the $175,000 project features a dual drive-thru and landscaping and is managed by Barghausen Consulting Engineers.  El Paso Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Salvador —Ardilla— Garcia-Garcia, a reputed Barrio Azteca leader, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Aug. 21 after pleading guilty to smuggling heroin from Juárez to El Paso; he also faces three years of supervised release.  El Paso Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The City of El Paso will host El Paso Startup Week from Sept. 21 to 27 to offer workshops, roundtables and networking events that empower small business owners and Borderland entrepreneurs. The event, supported by over 20 Entrepreneurial Support Organizations, will cover sessions on topics like cybersecurity and AI-driven marketing — strengthening our local commerce.  KFOX14
  • BorderPlex Digital Assets plans to invest $165 billion in a new data center campus in Doña Ana County that will create over 2,000 construction jobs and 750 permanent jobs while using a closed-loop cooling system to minimize water use. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Summer 2025 in El Paso was milder than the record-breaking summers of 2023 and 2024 but still recorded 33 days over 100 degrees—above historic norms. The season, with temperatures averaging near 86 degrees, points to the ongoing impact of climate change and urbanization in the region.  El Paso Matters

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso has built the first citywide drone network in the U.S. that connects the police, fire department and international airport with 23 DJI Docks and a FlightHub 2 On-Prem system—officials will hold a news conference at 4 p.m. today—to explain the new public safety platform.  KVIA
  • Governor Greg Abbott announced a 10-year transportation plan with a $146 billion investment that will improve road safety, congestion, and connectivity under TxDOT’s Unified Transportation Program. El Paso will receive $2.2 billion for projects including the Downtown 10 initiative, with a public hearing on September 16 (4 to 7 p.m.) at the Civic and Convention Center.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • Team RWB partnered with the Department of Veterans Affairs — launching the Warrior Wellness Challenge, a free month-long fitness program on its app that began Sept. 1 with an assessment test and daily workouts. Team RWB El Paso will host 15 in-person events at Veteran One Stop and Album Park with the Tom Lea Institute, and participants will retest their progress after 30 days.  KVIA
