BUSINESS NEWS

  • El Paso businessman Edgar Delfin has launched a new bar called Bye Bye Dear at 111 E. Robinson St.—an immersive nightclub inspired by late 70s and early 80s sci‑fi aesthetics—and it will host local musicians and pop‑up food vendors with extended hours from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. The venue aims to offer a fresh nightlife experience with themed music nights and diverse food options.  El Paso Times
  • Smalls Sliders opened its new East El Paso location on Tuesday at 12130 Montwood Dr.—the family business led by Tanweer and Rehman Ahmed plans to add over 24 locations in West Texas, Las Vegas and Tucson.  KFOX14

CRIME NEWS

  • El Paso police arrested two men after a fight with a bar security guard on North Mesa Street in the Cincinnati Entertainment District on Sept. 6—25-year-old Nima Dhendup was charged with assaulting a public servant and 25-year-old Menda Wangchuk Dorgi was charged with resisting arrest.  El Paso Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTEP expanded its esports program—forming an official team to join the National Esports Collegiate Conference starting Sept 15, while EPCC launched its own program by joining the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports Tier 3 and offering scholarships to prepare students for a growing industry. Both institutions aim to provide hands-on experience that links academic learning with competitive play.  El Paso Matters

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Greg Abbott is set to issue an executive order that will require buyers to be at least 21 to purchase THC products—this move follows a special session that ended without agreement. The order will direct state health officials to create rules similar to those for alcohol sales and is expected soon.  El Paso Times
  • A judge terminated removal proceedings against Catalina Xóchitl Santiago on Sept. 8 while she was held at an ICE processing facility on Montana Avenue in El Paso—supporters are gathering outside the facility today at 12:30 p.m. to call for her immediate release as government lawyers have 30 days to appeal the ruling.  El Paso Times

  • UTEP Miners will travel to Austin for their marquee non-conference game against No. 7 Texas on Sept. 13 at 2:15 p.m. MT — the contest features top quarterbacks Arch Manning for Texas and Malachi Nelson for UTEP as available ticket prices start at $75 on major resale platforms.  El Paso Times
