- ➤ El Paso promoter J and K Present will launch the 'Detour' concert series on Oct. 5 at Lincoln Park from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.—the event will transform iconic landmarks like the area under the Spaghetti Bowl into open-air music venues featuring Disclosure, Chanel Tres, local artists and live mural painting by Mystic Desert Studio. - ➤ Leaders in Doña Ana County approved an incentive deal on Sept. 19 for Project Jupiter, a $165 billion data center campus led by Oracle and OpenAI that created 2,500 construction jobs and will add 750 full-time positions once built. The project promises a separate power system using natural gas turbines and lower water use compared to other data centers — a plan that has raised both hope and concern in the border region. - ➤ Today, Animal Services opened the Westside Adoption Center at 5625 Confetti Drive with a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m.—the center has new living spaces, kennels and a walking trail and will open from noon to 6 p.m. daily. EPCC and UTEP won an NIH grant of 485,000 dollars to study genes and help doctors, and the 12500 seat Sunset Amphitheater will break ground on Nov. 19 under a plan by both the public and private sectors. - ➤ El Paso Zoo Director Joe Montisano was placed on temporary administrative leave earlier this week — city officials declined to comment on the reason and noted he cannot access his work email or cellphone until he returns. The zoo is addressing controversies including a wrongful termination lawsuit and accreditation issues as it continues facility upgrades and fundraising efforts. KFOX14
- ➤ The Texas Department of Agriculture launched a New World screwworm trapping plan to protect livestock and rural communities in the El Paso area—traps will be set in high-risk border zones and key livestock and port locations.
