COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Early this morning, a water main break on Sierra Madre Dr. in Northeast El Paso caused a sinkhole—leaving nearly 50 residents without water while officials work on restoring service.  KVIA
  • Dozens of people gathered at El Paso International Airport to welcome home Vietnam and Korean War veterans who flew free on the Rio Grande Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., where they visited memorials. The veterans were greeted with signs and music when they returned—dozens of community members cheered their arrival.  KVIA
  • La Nube hosted Nickelodeon’s World Wide Day of Play event on Saturday where community members enjoyed hands-on STEAM activities, food trucks, a Rugrats toddler zone and meet-and-greets with favorites like SpongeBob Squarepants and PAW Patrol. Families could also join indoor activities—such as testing skills on the Ninja Wall and learning drone flight with a ticket purchase.  KVIA

CULTURE NEWS

  • In El Paso, El General Humvee and FCC Motorsports is a local car shop that builds custom cars and offers ceramic coatings and wraps. Owner Alfredo Morga said the business will take its builds nationwide and plans to attend Sema — one of the largest car shows in the country.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TxDOT is moving ahead with a $1.3 billion project to widen I-10 from Executive Center Boulevard to Copia Street — a plan that will change travel patterns and require demolishing local buildings.   • City Council approved two changes that will allow the parking benefit district to share more revenue from metered parking in Kern and Uptown—this decision will support city spending.  El Paso Inc.

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Thursday, Sandra Gonzalez opened the new Eastside facility for the El Paso Center for Diabetes in front of local health and community leaders. The center aims to expand diabetes care+education services to residents.  El Paso Inc.
  • A family in El Paso celebrated Emma Boggs' 10th birthday amid Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Month as doctors warned that children with Leigh’s disease rarely improve — her steady progress through therapy has defied grim expectations. Local high school football coaches joined together at the Westside Bowl rivalry game to raise awareness about her condition.  KVIA
  • Upper Valley Urgent Care Center held a grand opening for its new location in Eastlake on Saturday and opens officially today at 8 a.m. offering walk-in care seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.—bringing needed services closer to local residents.  KVIA
