COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Paseo del Este are frustrated after learning they are tied to an HOA they were not told about—homebuyers first saw the fees when a bill arrived in 2025. Hunt Companies said they will reduce charges and waive fines until March 1 when the new pool and amenity center open.  KFOX14
  • The Borderland Rescue Fund has distributed over 70,000 pounds of food and supplies to local animal welfare organizations in El Paso—expanding its support for pets and shelters in need.  El Paso Inc.
  • The El Paso Fire Department will host the fourth annual Fire Fest Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. at Veterans Park on Salem Dr. where community members will view a student art gallery, live demonstration, music, food trucks+vendors, and a ribbon cutting for the redesigned STAR helicopter.  KFOX14
  • El Paso Giving Day has raised $11 million over nine years and is now in its 10th year with the Bowl of Giving—Early Giving runs from Oct. 9–15 and Game Day is Oct. 16 with over 200 local nonprofits benefiting from over $815,000 in matching funds. CULTURE NEWS

  • El Paso locals shared their favorite taco spots on National Taco Day today, naming long-time taquerias and new stands that offer distinct flavors. The list reflects a vibrant taco culture+ uniting classic tastes with fresh innovations in our community.  KLAQ
  • The El Paso Symphony Orchestra will return with concerts featuring music by John Williams, Eric Whitacre and Richard Strauss and will open with Adventures on Earth by John Williams. The group + an 84-member orchestra and 32-piece choir will perform Space Odyssey on October 17 and October 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Plaza Theatre.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Department of Transportation to remove politically themed markings from downtown El Paso’s crosswalks at Missouri and Stanton—this change is meant to align local road markings with federal and state safety guidelines.  KVIA
  • TxDOT reminds El Paso residents to submit public comments on its Downtown 10 project to widen I-10 between Executive Center and Copia—comments must be in by Tuesday, October 14. County commissioners have asked TxDOT to include safety features for pedestrians and cyclists in the final design.  KFOX14
  • Gov. Greg Abbott ordered Texas cities today to remove road markings that display social, political or ideological messages and warned that noncompliance may result in state and federal funding cuts—affecting symbols seen at Pride Square. El Paso officials said they are reviewing the directive while Amber Pérez from the Borderland Rainbow Center accused the governor of using safety as a guise to target inclusive symbols—raising concerns about community unity.  El Paso Times
  • El Paso is moving forward with its national search for a new Animal Services director as it asks residents to share their views through a survey at the end of the month. Candidate interviews will be held in early January—community input along with advice from the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee will guide the process.  KFOX14

  • The Star on the Mountain glows pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month from October 8—22 as GECU sponsors the lighting to show hope and support for those affected by breast cancer, according to the El Paso Chamber.  KFOX14
