- ➤ El Paso hosts multiple Halloween and family events—such as Spooky Fest at Camp Cohen Water Park on Saturday, the El Paso Symphony Orchestra’s Space Odyssey show on Friday and Saturday, and a drive-through Tunnel of Terror at Tommy’s Express on Friday and Saturday—and local attractions including a roller derby doubleheader, haunted spots at Wet N' Wild, corn mazes and a pumpkin patch at Jumbo Park. - ➤ Burger, known for its pop-up eatery and smash burgers, now has a permanent location at 209 East Mills Avenue in downtown — the owners are excited to return to their original El Paso roots after a stint in Horizon City. KVIA
- ➤ Meta said at an event at the Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park that it began building a $1.5 billion data center on Oct 13 in Northeast El Paso on a 1,000-acre site near the state line — the project will add 100 permanent jobs and 1,800 construction jobs and use a system that recycles water to cool its computers, with operations set to start by 2028. - ➤ El Paso will see a busy weekend of events—from the Amigo Airsho with air displays at Biggs Army Airfield on Oct. 18-19 and the El Paso Symphony’s Space Odyssey at the Plaza Theatre on Oct. 17-18 to Brew at the Zoo, Wag-O-Ween Market, and Pumpkin Palooza Market offering family fun. - ➤ Local author Meagan O'Toole Pitts is celebrated for her children's book Carmelita that draws from the 1917 Bath Riots and honors civil rights leader Carmelita Torres & is a finalist in the International Latino Book Awards. - ➤ El Paso Water is replacing all old water meters with new advanced technology that collects data hourly—nearly 40% have been installed and the rest will be updated next year. The new meters can detect leaks early—helping residents monitor usage and manage bills. El Paso Matters
- ➤ Federal workers with a valid ID get a 30% discount at Evaga Desert Kitchen through October and free tickets for a Friday show at The Elmont Swim Club featuring international DJ Hugel as a relief measure amid the ongoing government shutdown. - ➤ Attorney Daniela Labinoti explained in this week's Legal Jargon segment that drivers who suffer car damage from road construction debris can sue the private construction companies for compensation such as medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
