COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A teen from Las Cruces who beat cancer donated toys to help patients at the El Paso Children's Hospital using his Make-A-Wish wish, while a 10-year-old girl used hers to fund sports equipment for adaptive sports — the first time Make-A-Wish New Mexico has granted two wishes at once in its 40-year history.  KFOX14

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flagstone Foods will cut 225 jobs at its El Paso facility by the end of 2025 as production shifts to North Carolina and Alabama—its facility will become the Emerald Nuts Center of Excellence in 2026 and is located near the El Paso International Airport.  KVIA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Los Angeles Azules will bring their Cumbia Sin Fronteras US Tour to El Paso on March 28, 2026 at the Don Haskins Center (UTEP). Tickets will go on sale Friday (October 24), giving fans time to plan for the upcoming show.  KFOX14

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Six high school marching bands from Ysleta ISD earned Division I Superior ratings last Saturday—advancing to UIL Area competitions. The bands will compete in Class 4A, 5A and 6A categories from Oct. 25 to Nov. 1 in locations including Abilene and the SISD Athletic Complex.  KFOX14
  • Socorro schools in El Paso began offering free suppers and snacks to children ages 1 to 18 starting Monday at several campuses. The program serves supper at Eastlake High from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. and at other schools from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m.—with free breakfasts and a fresh fruit and vegetable program also available.  KFOX14
  • UTEP has introduced new AI-powered manikins that breathe, blink, and respond like real patients in its Nursing Center for Simulation—students practice emergency scenarios and patient care with the technology. The $1.1 million project is supported by The Hospitals of Providence and Tenet Healthcare to help address the local nursing shortage.  KVIA
  • Socorro ISD is asking voters to support Proposition A in the November election. Superintendent James Vasquez said the measure is key for the district—helping it recover from last year's budget deficit while bringing changes to taxpayers.  KFOX14

  • An El Paso dental clinic offers flexible care for children with special needs by providing sedation options (laughing gas, oral sedation, or general anesthesia) and sensory-friendly rooms. The Croc Doc has served local families for over a decade and gives parents dedicated resources to ease dental visits.  KFOX14
  • HealthSpring will launch new Medicare Advantage plans for seniors starting January 1 that offer benefits like $0 monthly premiums and copays—backed by nearly 100 years of expertise, West Texas Market Manager Lupita Trevino urged seniors to review their Medicare options before the enrollment period begins.  KFOX14
  • Spirit of Children from Spirit Halloween brought festive Halloween activities to Providence Children's Hospital on Monday—kids enjoyed costumes, pumpkin decorating, and celebration kits that brightened their day while supporting Child Life services.  KFOX14

  • The El Paso Chihuahuas are looking to hire a mascot coordinator to perform as Chico after posting the job on Oct. 16. Applicants must be between 5'10" and 6'2", have relevant experience and a related degree, and the job offers a salary of $30,000 to $40,000 + health benefits and paid time off.  El Paso Times
