COMMUNITY NEWS

  • El Paso city officials are hosting a community meeting tonight at Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus to discuss a $19 million road project that will extend Relser Drive to improve access to the Enchanted Hills neighborhood and help first responders reach homes and schools. The meeting runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. — residents are invited to share feedback on the roadway design, public art, sidewalks, landscaping and drainage improvements.  KFOX14

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Since 2015, fatal crashes involving Texans aged 65 and older have risen by 39% and now make up 18% of all fatal crashes in 2024 — the Texas Department of Transportation urges seniors to drive in good weather, avoid rush hours, and take advantage of free CarFit checkups to help ensure safer driving.  KFOX14

  • Crumbl has brought back its Dubai Chocolate Brownie, a soft yet rich treat with a crunchy Kataifi and pistachio filling topped with milk chocolate, for a limited time until Oct. 25—available at three El Paso locations on Eastlake, Pebble Hills, and Desert.  El Paso Times
  • Panera Bread will open its third bakery-café in far east El Paso at 12304 Eastlake Blvd on Oct. 23 at 6 a.m.—the grand opening will include a bread-breaking ceremony, free meals for the first 100 guests, and plans to hire 55 to 60 local employees.  KFOX14

ECONOMY NEWS

  • El Paso drivers see gas prices drop as AAA Texas reports that a gallon of regular fuel is now $2.68 compared to $3.01 last year—this decrease comes from high supply and a seasonal shift to winter-blend gasoline, though prices may change if travel demand rises during upcoming holidays.  KVIA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gadsden Independent School District Superintendent Travis Dempsey is stepping away after posting a video this morning that thanked students, staff, and community—he did not say where he will work next.  KVIA
  • UTEP raised $41,558,827 during its 2025 fiscal year that ended August 31 — marking the fourth consecutive year it surpassed $40 million in donations. The funds, coming from 17,162 unique gifts including over 1,900 first-time donors, will support scholarships, science, athletics and other academic programs.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso Electric is building a new storage site on Hawkins Boulevard near the EPCC Valle Verde campus — the project will add a prefabricated building and concrete pavement for parking and storage valued at over $3.5 million. Jesus Rivera of Quantum Engineering is handling the project, which is part of the company’s expansion in East El Paso.  El Paso Times
  • Texas Health and Human Services said that if the government shutdown continues past October 27, SNAP benefits for November will not be issued in Texas due to funding disruptions and delayed data processing — the USDA noted that insufficient funds could further affect disbursement.  KVIA

  • The El Paso Times invited readers to vote for the top high-school female athlete of the week for Oct. 14-18, featuring volleyball players from Riverside, Socorro, Franklin, Coronado, Ysleta, Eastwood, Del Valle, and Hanks who posted standout stats during recent matches.  El Paso Times
