COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Some Borderland residents played golf today at Underwood Golf Course to honor civic leader Gary del Palacio and raise scholarship funds for high school seniors—144 players took part. The tournament also marked 20 years since he died and organizers said they will keep his tradition alive.  KVIA
  • Students at Del Valle High are leading Operation Waterspring—an initiative that collects donations to build hygiene kits for local shelters. Junior Leonardo Gomez, who started the project after facing hardship, said the group now accepts hygiene items and water bottles while raising funds to donate an air conditioning unit to a shelter.  KVIA

  • A new El Pollo Loco opened today at 1441 Airway Boulevard on the eastside of El Paso—serving fire-grilled chicken, burrito bowls, quesadillas, nachos, tostadas, salads, and tacos. The chain started in 1974 with Pancho Ochoa's signature citrus-marinaded recipe and has grown across Mexico and into the U.S.  KVIA
  • ReadyOne Industries in El Paso supplies high quality garments for the US military and today two employees explained how the company meets defense needs—underscoring its local leadership in the field.  KVIA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High school juniors, seniors and their families are invited to explore UTEP's Orange and Blue Day today from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event offers guided campus tours, college showcases and workshops on admissions, financial aid and campus housing — and it will also feature live music and theater performances.  KVIA
  • El Paso Independent School District is seeking a good cause exception from a state rule that mandates an armed officer at every campus due to a shortage of qualified officers — the district is 13 officers short of its 44-officer goal. EPISD is actively recruiting officers and working with local law enforcement and a private security company to boost campus safety.  KFOX14
  • UTEP President Heather Wilson announced at an El Paso Bar Association luncheon that a matching grant of $5 million from the Paul L. Foster Family Foundation will help build support for a public law school in El Paso—UTEP may submit a formal request by 2027 with the school potentially opening in 2030 if additional funds and approvals are secured.  El Paso Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On November 2, Texas will offer free admission to all 89 state parks where visitors can enjoy hiking, biking, swimming, and paddleboarding at nearby Franklin Mountains State Park—reservations are recommended online to secure a spot.  KVIA
  • Residents on Magoffin Ave have told city leaders to act on a worsening squatter crisis as homeless people occupy abandoned homes and vehicles—neighbors report rising theft, drug use, and safety concerns that have grown over the past seven years. City officials are reviewing the cases and urging residents to report issues through the city app.  KFOX14

SPORTS NEWS

  • Riverside High School stayed unbeaten in District 1-4A—Division 1 when it won a 27-24 game against Austin today, keeping its district record perfect at 6-0 and overall record at 7-1.  El Paso Times
  • Total Nonstop Action wrestling will return to El Paso in December on three nights—on December 5 a live-streamed Final Resolution event will kick off followed by TV tapings on December 6 and 7. World champion Mike Santana, who has overcome tough challenges, will defend his title and share his journey during the holiday season.  KFOX14
  • UTEP Miners volleyball ended Western Kentucky’s 100-match Conference USA winning streak with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 win on the road despite missing top player Kaya Weaver; the team improved to a 19-2 record and will face WKU again today at 11 a.m. MT.  El Paso Times
