COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Members of the 'Free Xochitl' campaign held a liberation parade on Montana Avenue Saturday to celebrate Catalina 'Xochitl' Santiago's release from 59 days of ICE detention—her freedom came after a federal court ruled her detention violated constitutional rights. The parade featured a community theater performance—Santiago spoke about her detention as supporters urged the release of others held in ICE facilities.  KFOX14
  • On Saturday, El Paso enjoyed several fall events including Boo at the Zoo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Zoo and Botanical Gardens, an ATV safety event at UMC East Clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free helmets for riders under eighteen, a free health fair with screenings at Marathon Refinery from 9 a.m. to noon, a fall festival with food, music and a costume contest at Ascarate Park from 6 to 9 p.m., and a play at UTEP’s Wise Family Theatre with tickets starting at $12. Boo at the Zoo continues today and tomorrow—giving families one more chance to enjoy Halloween fun.  KVIA

  • This weekend in Socorro, a Tim Burton-themed event brought spooky style to life at the Nightmare Market hosted by Jane & Jensen Vintage & Three Missions Brewery. The monthly market featured local vendors, themed treats, and live performances that highlighted the area’s culture and history.  KVIA
  • St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church hosted hundreds at its 60th Annual Feast of the Middle East where visitors enjoyed lamb and chicken kabobs, baked kibbe, green bean stew, pita bread and baklava—singer Farah Ibrahim led traditional songs while a live Arabic band spurred dancing. The festival continues today from noon to 8 p.m. at 120 N. Festival Dr.  KVIA
  • As Halloween nears, archived records revive ghost stories from El Paso sites including a fire station with odd noises, a theater where workers saw a ghostly woman tending flowers – and a road where drivers reported a monk guarding hidden treasure. The tales also note objects disappearing and strange sounds that have spooked local workers and visitors.  El Paso Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents in El Paso and Las Cruces safely disposed of expired prescription drugs last Saturday during the 29th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, which ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Multiple drop-off sites, including pharmacies, retail stores, and police locations, were available and helped prevent drug misuse and reduce overdose risks.  KVIA

  • Actor Mario Lopez was seen at Salt and Honey near Downtown El Paso after attending a World Series game — his visit marked his first return since co-hosting a charity event in 2024, with his wife Courtney also sharing a post about the experience.  El Paso Times
