- ➤ The El Paso Five Point Lion's Club hosted its Second Annual Boo Bash for children with disabilities—offering treats and costumes in a safe, friendly environment. Rose Lucero said the event gives kids a chance to enjoy Halloween like any other day. KVIA
- ➤ ¡Viva La Plant Shop! hosted a Scream-themed paint and pot night on Saturday where customers RSVP’d to get a Ghostface concrete pot, a succulent or cactus, paint supplies, and a free film showing. The shop said more themed events—like Friday the 13th and Coco nights—will be held in the future. KVIA
- ➤ More than 100 people took part in the annual Victims of Crime Walk last weekend to honor lives lost to violence and support grieving families as they walked a seven-mile route that started at the El Paso County Coliseum + ended at the Crime Victims Memorial. KVIA

- ➤ El Paso Electric asked to raise monthly bills from $96 to $118 and faced strong criticism from PUC staff who said the company wanted too high a profit margin—this extra profit could add millions for its shareholders. The utility said it needed the funds to pay for major capital projects and cover overruns at its Newman Unit 6 power plant while also charging customers for an environmental settlement. - ➤ UTEP is launching a new clinical supervision program — it will cut costs for future social workers while strengthening the region's mental health workforce. The initiative will lower barriers for aspiring clinicians and improve access to care. El Paso Inc.
- ➤ University officials said the Paul L. Foster Family Foundation has pledged a $5M matching grant to help create a law school at UTEP — the funds will support the new program for local students. El Paso Inc.
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Paulo Cesar Gamez Lira, a 27-year-old DACA recipient and father of four, was released from ICE detention on Sept. 24 after 43 days in custody when officers arrested him outside his Horizon City home while he took his 3-month-old baby with a serious condition for a doctor’s visit. His release followed a judge’s ruling that his detention violated his rights—lawyers say the case raises concerns over aggressive immigration tactics. El Paso Times

- ➤ El Paso professional boxers will headline a fight card on Nov. 8 at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Mescalero, New Mexico—Jorge Tovar will face Eric Moon, Ariel Moreno will fight Robert Pucheta, Victor Aranda will compete against DePriest Johnson, and Marcos Duran will challenge Ronald Baca.
