- ➤ El Paso World War II veteran Gabriel Malafronte—who flew 15 air missions over Germany—will turn 100 on November 10 and has asked for 100 birthday cards to mark his centennial a day before Veterans Day. The Texas Veterans Land Board and Dr. Dawn Buckingham are urging Texans to support his wish through the 100 for 100 program. El Paso Times
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ L&F Distributors opened a new 225,000 sq ft warehouse at 1200 Burgundy Rd in the Lower Valley to support rising businesses in Far East El Paso and the City of Horizon, nearly doubling its former space. The company said it would finish the move by late November or early December (and it also donated $100,000 to Texas Tech Health El Paso’s Fox Cancer Center). KFOX14

- ➤ UTEP will honor over 30 members of its 2005 football team during its home game against Jacksonville State on November 8 at Sun Bowl Stadium—returning players and coach Mike Price will be recognized as Hall of Fame inductees. El Paso will also hold a free Veterans Day parade on November 8 beginning at 10 a.m. in Downtown, with a route along Myrtle Avenue that ends near City Hall to honor local service members. - ➤ Socorro ISD leaders said Wednesday that they will keep educating students after voters narrowly rejected Proposition A that would have added extra funding—Superintendent James Vasquez warned the setback may force the district to take short-term loans, delay upgrades, and cope with a loss of about 800 students next year. State conservators confirmed that the vote does not change the timeline for ending oversight and stressed the need to rebuild voter trust. KVIA
- ➤ A UTEP geology professor discovered dinosaur fossils near the Indio Mountains Research Station that extend the known range of an ornithopod species from 115 million years ago—he worked with UTEP students and researchers from New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science and Montana State University to study the fragments in the university labs. - ➤ El Paso lawmakers and state officials announced Phase II of the nearly $30M Wyler Tramway revival after a $7M boost was secured during the legislative session. - ➤ El Paso County is launching emergency aid measures to ease food insecurity caused by SNAP delays amid the government shutdown. The commissioners directed legal reviews, expanded aid programs, and opened channels for donations — steps aimed at helping 143,000 residents affected by the slowdown. El Paso Times
- ➤ El Paso Airport stays on schedule during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history because federal workers have shown up as usual, the president of local FG 1050 said—covering workers from New Mexico and El Paso. KVIA
- ➤ Texas Gas Service is proposing a 27% gas rate hike that led the City Council to order community meetings November 10th through November 13th at local centers — residents can attend to share concerns while the Railroad Commission will decide on the final rates in January 2026. KFOX14

- ➤ Beloved El Paso musician Russ Kalman, who survived stage 4 laryngeal cancer and lost most of his teeth, is raising money through a GoFundMe campaign organized by his wife (Kat Tyler) to cover the $13,000 needed for new dentures to help him eat and smile again. The campaign has raised over $6,000 to date and has gained strong support from fellow musicians who value his decades-long contributions to El Paso’s music scene. El Paso Matters

- ➤ El Paso Masters athlete Elizabeth Teague will compete in Mexico City at the North, Central American and Caribbean Masters Athletics Championships and may win four gold medals this weekend.
