COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Opportunity Center for the Homeless will serve Thanksgiving meals on November 22 at 2 p.m. at Veterans Transitional Living Center on 1217 Magoffin Ave — they plan to feed up to 400 people from five emergency shelters, one transitional living center, and four permanent housing programs — while asking for donations of food and cold weather clothing.  KVIA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Burritos Crisostomo will open a new restaurant on North Zaragoza Road in far east El Paso. The project, estimated at $350,000, includes a 2,100-square-foot building and is handled by Carlos Villanueva of Complete Design and Drafting — its owner is Anzures III LLC.  El Paso Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Legendary rock band Styx will perform at Abraham Chavez Theatre on March 22 and fans can buy presale tickets at 10 a.m. on Nov. 20 with public sales starting at 10 a.m. on Nov. 21 — the event is expected to draw enthusiastic concertgoers.  KFOX14
  • El Paso honored WWE star Eddie Guerrero on November 18 by declaring it Eddie Guerrero Day at a ceremony attended by his family, friends, and fans—local officials and his daughter Sherilyn highlighted his lasting cultural impact during the event. Plans were also announced to enhance the mural at Lincoln Park to keep his memory alive.  KFOX14
  • On Tuesday, the El Paso community tried festive treats from five local food trucks as a preview for WinterFest. The Holiday Food Truck Village will open on Nov. 22 with snacks like churros, tacos and hot chocolate—city officials said it will bring a warm, festive spirit downtown.  KFOX14

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Brian Lusk was named as the sole candidate for EPISD superintendent after his interview on Nov 17, and the board unanimously selected him. The board will observe a 21-day waiting period—required by state law—before officially appointing him.  El Paso Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the 1st Armored Division and its subordinate brigades hosted the Iron Heroes Competition at the Doña Ana Range Complex—where tank crews moved across desert terrain scanning for simulated enemy vehicles. The contest identified top individuals, teams, crews, and squads that will represent the division in higher-level Army events.  KVIA

SPORTS NEWS

  • UTEP coach Scotty Walden said the game against New Mexico State is extra important because this meeting could be the last one for now—he said it will be treated like a bowl game. Walden and athletic director Jim Senter are working hard now—hoping to keep the rivalry on the schedule for the future.  El Paso Times
