  • Seven families gathered at the 65th District Family Court on National Adoption Day to adopt children and start new lives—welcoming them into loving homes. The Heart Gallery of El Paso joined court officials—raising awareness about the need for more local foster and adoptive families.  KVIA
  • Cars and Canines held a dog-adoption event at Mutts Cantina on Sunday in honor of its late founder Mia Molina, drawing friends, family, and several rescue groups—organizers said the event helps shelter dogs find new homes and plans call for more events early next year.  KVIA

CULTURE NEWS

  • City work crews—last week—decorated San Jacinto Plaza with more than 1 million lights, a 55-foot holiday tree and oversized decorations as WinterFest returned to Downtown for its 10th year.  El Paso Inc.
  • Top Model of the World USA will hold its first event in El Paso at the Convention Center, where models from across the country compete for a trip to China—organizers say the competition offers a big opportunity for emerging modeling careers—sparking keen interest among talent scouts.  KVIA
  • Las Alucines, the comedy podcast hosted by Lupita Villalobos and Kass Quezada known as Quesito, will perform a live show next year at Plaza Theatre in El Paso on Feb.7 at 8 p.m. — the tour will feature a revamped set that blends comedy, music, and audience interaction.  KFOX14

ECONOMY NEWS

  • El Paso households may face an 18% utility bill increase in early 2026 as water, electric & gas providers request higher rates to fund costly upgrades and capital projects. The proposed changes will be reviewed by local regulators soon, putting extra financial pressure on families.  El Paso Matters

FINANCE NEWS

  • El Paso’s largest locally owned federal credit union GECU entered a definitive agreement to buy a New Mexico bank — its first move beyond Sun City and Texas. The acquisition will broaden its service area and is pending regulatory approval.  El Paso Inc.
  • Bank of America reported lending growth in El Paso as the bank increased home and business loans to local families—promising more credit opportunities in the coming months.  El Paso Inc.

HEALTH NEWS

  • Last weekend the El Paso Center for Diabetes teamed with the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and Diabetes Alliance to offer free health screenings and education on managing diabetes. Experts explained early signs—like increased thirst and blurred vision—and urged regular dental and eye exams to help prevent complications.  KVIA

SPORTS NEWS

  • UTEP is moving to the Mountain West Conference next season so it will not face NMSU then, and fans gathered at the Sun Bowl for what may be the last Battle of I-10 for a while. The university said it plans to play NMSU again starting in 2027 (head coach Scotty Walden said the team will work hard to keep the series alive).  KFOX14
  • After Elauni Bennett scored 26 points in UMKC's 80-71 loss to Lindenwood MO Lions, UTEP will visit UMKC on Tuesday for their first meeting of the season—UMKC looks to rebound from the recent game.  El Paso Inc.
  • The Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens and the UTEP Miners will compete in a Conference USA matchup as part of the college season and the contest is expected to test the teams' strengths.  El Paso Inc.
