COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The El Paso Fire Department warned residents this holiday season about the dangers of frying turkeys and stressed that keeping the fryer 10 feet away from the cooking area can help prevent fires—officials said the turkey should be completely dry and defrosted and urged using an ABC fire extinguisher and calling 911 in case flames start.  KFOX14
  • El Paso offers many events this weekend with a free book sale at Brave Books, live music, a UTEP women’s basketball game, and film screenings at local venues. Many activities span from Friday to Sunday — from pop-up sales with free drinks to a tamale throwdown and cruise at Casa Kin — so locals have plenty of choices.  KFOX14
  • NFL stars Aaron Jones and Alvin Jones Jr. held a turkey drive at Butterfield Trail Golf Club behind the El Paso International Airport on November 26 at 10 a.m. using their A&A All The Way Foundation to support children and military families.  KFOX14

CULTURE NEWS

  • La Nube STEAM Discovery Center in Downtown El Paso won the Hands On! Children in Museums Award 2025 when it was honored at the European Museum Academy in Liverpool. It is now among only three U.S. institutions to earn the award—joining the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia and the Boston Children’s Museum.  KVIA
  • Funeral services will be held Dec. 4-5 for Estine Davis, a pioneering businesswoman who owned Estine’s Barbershop and founded the Miss Black El Paso Pageant. Visitation is on Dec. 4 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church and the service with internment will follow on Dec. 5 at Restlawn Memorial Park.  El Paso Times
  • El Paso's WinterFest market has been named the top Christmas market for 2026 by Newsweek in their Readers' Choice Awards—organizers are urging residents to vote in USA Today’s Top 10 Holiday Markets contest before Nov. 30.  KFOX14

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local shoppers say some grocery items for Thanksgiving cost a bit less this year, but many prices remain the same; an American Farm Bureau survey shows turkey, stuffing mix and dinner rolls have dropped in price while sweet potatoes, veggie trays and cream cost more—Vista Market on Doniphan advised shoppers to come early as the store will be busiest the night before and Thanksgiving Day.  KVIA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Valentin Quintero, a 71-year-old diabetic who lost his right leg, now bathes safely after the Rio Grande Area Agency on Aging Senior Fund installed a new shower with grab bars and a removable shower head in September. The Senior Fund campaign starts today and will run through the holiday season to support more older residents in staying independent.  El Paso Times
