  • Hospice El Paso is launching a holiday toy drive to fulfill 7-year-old Kenia’s wish — donations accepted until Dec. 10 will bring joy to underserved children in the community.  El Paso Inc.
  • A Horizon City family says free-roaming dogs have caused safety concerns as repeated complaints to Animal Services failed to stop bites on children and the appearance of new litters continues to worry neighbors.  KVIA

  • Bank of America named Tech Frontier as its 2025 Neighborhood Builder — awarding a grant and training to boost STEM and digital skills programs for local students.  El Paso Inc.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTEP professor Yolanda Chávez Leyva is among nine advisers helping the State Board of Education redesign the K-8 social studies curriculum to focus more on Texas and U.S. history—reducing world history—with new guidelines coming soon and board vote set for next summer and classroom use in 2030.  El Paso Matters
  • UTEP appointed Jesse Pisors as its new VP for institutional advancement — the former president of Pasco-Hernando State College will help guide university development initiatives.  El Paso Inc.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Farmers blocked the Tornillo and Zaragoza ports after Mexican lawmakers passed a new water rights law on Dec. 4, 2025 + the blockades now affect both commercial and non-commercial traffic and may slow regional shipments.  El Paso Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • ABC-7 has shared holiday decorating safety tips for those setting up indoors and outdoors in El Paso. Fire Captain Carlos Ornelas advises checking artificial trees, watering real trees, and testing extension cords (by feeling their heat) to prevent fires and damage.  KVIA

SPORTS NEWS

  • El Dorado running back Ryan Estrada signed with Minnesota on Wednesday and will enroll in January, while wide receiver JaDarius Sanders committed to New Mexico State for a summer start (both signed during the early signing period).  KFOX14
  • The 64-team field for NCAA volleyball was set yesterday for a six-round, three-week tournament held at 16 regional sites. Eight Texas teams competed, and UTEP earned its first-ever No. 6 seed in the tournament.  El Paso Times
  • El Paso’s youth football team, the Slaughter Gang Sharks, will play in the 7u state championship game on Sunday at Texas State University in San Marcos and is asking for local travel support (via Cashapp at $EPSharks). The undefeated team has won all games this season.  KFOX14
  • Franklin offensive linemen Justin Morales and Eric Sandoval signed with Division I schools Wednesday during the early signing period. Morales flipped from Kansas State to Arizona after a visit and Sandoval signed locally with UTEP for the revamped Miners' offensive line as more signings are expected in the spring.  KFOX14
