  • Ground was broken today at Nusenda Credit Union's upcoming Geronimo branch when CEO Michelle Dearholt and city officials used a hard hat and shovel to mark the start of construction. This first of three planned locations will boost local financial support and create new career opportunities.  KVIA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Texas Tech Health El Paso is hosting its third annual Lighting Campus for Hope event tonight at its campus to celebrate unity in the fight against cancer—families, friends and warriors will enjoy Santa visits, a firework show, mascot dance-off and treats from food trucks.  KVIA
  • A CDC advisory committee has voted to change the newborn hepatitis B shot guideline (the first dose will be given at 2 months) while local expert Rekha Lakshmanan warns that limited prenatal care in El Paso may leave infants at risk.  KVIA
  • A new burn center at UMC is set to be built near the Level I trauma center after voters approved a $346.6 million initiative, aiming to offer local burn care that could prevent the need for airlifts — a struggle once faced by burn survivor Diane Vasquez.  El Paso Matters
  • El Paso Children's Hospital will launch a mobile clinic to bring specialized care to children in rural areas. The unit will initially serve student athletes with cardiac screenings and later add orthopedics, endocrinology and craniofacial care — a project made possible by local support.  KFOX14

  • UTEP senior transfer linebacker Miner Micah Davey earned first-team All-Conference USA honors on Dec. 5 after leading the league with 131 tackles; receiver Kenny Odom was named to the second team by league coaches.  El Paso Times
  • The draw for the 2026 World Cup placed the U.S. in Group D with Paraguay, Australia & a playoff winner from Playoff C, as 48 nations were split into 12 groups on Friday, Dec. 5. The tournament brings top teams from around the world.  KFOX14
