  • El Paso celebrates the holiday season with multiple light displays including San Jacinto Plaza at 114 W. Mills Ave through Jan. 4, a drive-thru tour at Ascarate Park from 6 to 10 p.m., and Fred Loya’s Christmas Light Show on Dec. 21 to 22 and Dec. 24 to 25.  El Paso Times
  • Today, the free Los Murales de Segundo Barrio Tour starts at 10 a.m. near Father Rahm Ave (registration required) and leads into a week of local holiday events that include Horizon City’s float contest and tree lighting on Friday.  El Paso Matters

  • Mexican tourists are boosting holiday shopping at the Outlet Shoppes in El Paso as local businesses report that visitors now make up 65+ percent of weekend shoppers; the surge supports cross-border commerce amid stricter visa rules and growing demand.  KVIA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • El Paso ISD approved a one-time $300 stipend for eligible hourly employees to support student success, with payments scheduled for Dec. 15 (staff must be permanent and hired by Dec. 1).  KFOX14
  • Dr. Brian Lusk was named the new superintendent of El Paso ISD. He brings extensive experience from Dallas ISD as a teacher, principal, and deputy superintendent and will spend his first 90 days listening and learning while ensuring transparency and quality instruction.  KFOX14
  • Malena Mendoza, a nursing graduate and cancer survivor, will walk the stage today at 11 a.m. at EPCC’s Administrative Services Center Auditorium—she overcame a rare cancer diagnosis with intensive treatment to earn her nursing degree.  KFOX14

  • Independent Nation launched Sunland Safe to help Sunland Park business owners report licensing and administrative issues on Wednesday, Dec. 10. The portal comes after its halted project and allows submissions to be listed confidentially+ on record if needed.  El Paso Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The DEA in El Paso announced yesterday a new initiative to fight the fentanyl crisis, urging residents to learn about the drug's severe risks & stay alert as public education and enforcement efforts are stepped up.  KFOX14
  • A 79-year-old local man facing health challenges, including back issues, diabetes complications & myeloma surgery, now struggles with essential needs and financial strain. The Rio Grande Area Agency on Aging and Paso del Norte Community Foundation have launched the Senior Fund this holiday season to support his recovery.  El Paso Times
  • Attorney Daniela Labinoti explained that people with holiday food poisoning can file negligence or product liability claims against companies, restaurants, or distributors if they have documented proof of their illness (receipts and medical records) to cover hospital bills and lost wages.  KFOX14
