COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City is hosting a community tree planting event as part of the 915 Tree Keepers Program this Saturday at Tierra Vista Park, Spanish Castle Park, and E.L. Williams Park. Volunteers will meet at 7:30 a.m. to receive supplies and instructions and must wear long sleeve shirts, long pants and closed toe shoes.  KFOX14

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cypress Hill will perform a free outdoor concert on July 26 at Speaking Rock Casino at 122 S. Old Pueblo Rd where doors open at 6 p.m. Attendees must be 21+.  KFOX14
  • El Paso author Lawrence Welsh recalls his 1975 visit to Coolaholiga (near Nenagh), where family traditions and Irish history shaped his lifelong bond with Ireland. His upcoming book ‘Drag of the Dust’ continues to honor the rich heritage passed through generations.  El Paso Matters
  • USPS announced a new series of stamps celebrating lowrider car culture through art, family, and history+ the stamps feature images of iconic models like the 1946 Chevrolet Fleetline and 1963 Chevrolet Impala and are available at post offices and online.  KVIA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The El Paso City Council adopted the Chihuahuan Desert Climate Action Plan Tuesday — a community-informed roadmap that outlines a Cool Roof Program, energy management initiatives, and a new policy framework guiding data center growth.  KVIA
  • IQAir’s report showed that El Paso ranked among the top 10 most polluted U.S. major cities in 2024, with an average PM2.5 of 7.8 micrograms per cubic meter. The National Weather Service cautioned that windy, dusty conditions may worsen symptoms for infants, the elderly and those with respiratory issues.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Homeland Security awarded a 180-day contract to Amentum Services to operate Camp East Montana after reviewing a previous $1.2 billion agreement, and the company has posted several local job openings. More details will be updated as they become available.  KVIA

HEALTH NEWS

  • UTEP has installed the city's first free Narcan vending machine at its student union to offer anonymous naloxone access to students — part of a partnership with the El Paso Alliance for Recovery — and the machine has already been refilled, suggesting it may help reduce opioid overdoses on campus.  KFOX14

SPORTS NEWS

  • El Paso native Ricardo Pepi was named to the 27-man U.S. camp ahead of the World Cup, where he recorded 13 goals and two assists this season. He is expected to join Fulham in a transfer deal valued at ($42 million) this summer.  KFOX14
  • MIJ Law Firm is reviving its bracket challenge to award one winner $1 million for correctly predicting 63 tournament games; the free contest will also offer prizes such as $25,000 for 60 correct picks, BTS tickets on May 3, and a Samsung TV + signed copies of Tim Hardaway's book.  KVIA
  • The El Paso Times last week invited readers to vote for the top high school male athlete from El Paso Children’s Hospital nominees in track + baseball and soccer from March 9-14.
